We are in the heat of summer in the Quiet Wild, so indoor activities are on the agenda! The painting below is of a lighthouse in the Northeastern part of the United States. Not sure I did it justice, but it is my impression of an isolated lighthouse at the end of the road. I really like the shading of the lighthouse to show the aging process and shadows.

The painting below is called Cottage by the Seaside. It started as a pencil sketch, but I liked it so much that I finished it with acrylics. It looks like a place I would like to spend some time. I particularly like the bright flowers on the windowsill and around the cottage.

I recently took a class on painting expressive florals. The Anemone painting below is one of the results of the class. This is my first attempt at using a very large flat brush to paint petals. It was hard at first, but it got easier the more I worked at it. Still pretty amateurish, but my instructor says my style comes through.

The Magnolia painting below is another painting I created during my recent expressive floral class. Again, an amateurish depiction of the petals and the leaves are unrealistic, but I like the shading and color tones.

The painting below is called Wild Roses. I believe my brushstrokes have improved. I definitely get the painterly, expressive feeling when looking at it.

Desert Flowers is one of my favorites because it shows the blooms up close with the mountains in the background. The clouds evoke a typical summer afternoon when pop-up showers are common. I really like the shadows on the mountains and around the plants.

I hope you have enjoyed a glimpse into the Quiet Wild studio. Our birds will have to feast on the flowers and plants for a while until we get rid of our rodent visitors. So, images of our feathered friends will be delayed until another post. However, the Monarchs are still producing rapidly! More pictures of them to come.
Until next time…
