The calendar says January 1, 2026, but the quiet wild does not look like it! Our recent, unseasonably warm weather has convinced the plants that it is not winter. All of these photos were taken on January 1, 2026.

The Goldfinches showed up in the quiet wild today. I have been on the lookout for them, but didn’t expect to see them so early! There were many of them, but I could only get one in a photo. The Eastern Bluebird was back today, checking out the birdhouses. I can’t wait to see if he chooses one of my birdhouses to build his nest.

Lastly, this little green tree frog was peeking out of the birdhouse opening. He appeared to be trying to decide whether to venture out or not.

I wish everyone a very happy new year. May 2026 be everything you want it to be, with good physical and mental health.

Welcome 2026!
